Wedding Asylum Peckham
I was so bloody excited when I got Lucy and Dan’s enquiry, asking me if I was available to photograph their wedding at The Asylum in Peckham. Was I heck! The Asylum is – was! – on my list of Bucket List Wedding Venues to shoot at,so I was bouncing off the walls just a little.
On the day of the wedding I arrived at Lucy and Dan’s house, where Lucy was getting ready with her family and matron of honour, and got a bit overexcited again when Lucy showed me her wedding dress – a gorgeous, bright yellow, satin gown from Belle & Bunty. When I photographed Helen and Sam’s Peckham wedding last year, I was thrilled with Helen’s yellow wedding dress, wishing that more brides wore bright dresses! And here was another one, with pale yellow art deco style shoes to match. Swoon.
Lucy also had henna done on her hands and feet, and wore deep blue nails, which I realised later matched beautifully with Dan’s suit!
The wedding ceremony at The Asylum chapel in Caroline Gardens was lovely. Lucy and Dan had done “the legal bit” two days earlier, so they’d asked one of their friends to officiate the ceremony, which made it so beautifully personal. After the ceremony we slipped away for some couple photos, and then afternoon tea, with sandwiches and biscuits, was served in The Asylum by The Vintage Sisters, who looked fabulous in their retro 50s outfits!
After tea and speeches, everybody left to go to the reception at the Bermondsey Social Club, where dinner arrived by food truck – what a fun idea! Pies or curry were the order of the day, after which there was dancing galore – and thanks to the first song played for everyone to join in with, I’ve had “Peaches” by The Presidents of the USA stuck in my head ever since! I’m not complaining.
Thanks, Lucy & Dan, for having me along, and thanks to Paola De Paola for second shooting for me!
